Canada names lineup to face USA July 6th

The Canada Wolverines will go into Saturday’s match against the USA Tomahawks with six debutants attempting to make history against their USA counterparts. The Wolverines have never beaten the Tomahawks in game one of the Colonial Cup with their sole win coming in game two of the 2011 series.  With the series expanded to 3 games, it is critical Canada wins at home in game one before going to Philadelphia for game 2.

The Wolverines will be looking for faster starts this season, after falling behind on the scoreboard in both matches last year. In game one at Lamport Stadium last year, the Tomahawks took advantage of a Wolverines disallowed try to race to a 16 – 0 lead at half time. The Wolverines managed a spirited comeback only to fall short 28 – 24 at the end of the match.

Canada Wolverines Coach Jamie Lester commented “The six debutants come into the team to do a job that has not been achieved before them. We still have a strong core of experienced players there; however, I think it is the fresh faces than can add a little extra spice to the team. It’s going to be a massive task coming up against the World Cup bound Tomahawks.  The USA will want to take some winning momentum into the World Cup and we have to stop that.  We know the challenges that lay ahead, but I have high expectations of our boys, and we know what we can achieve when we get things right”.
