History of Rugby League in Canada |
Whilst Rugby League has never been a major sport in Canada, it has
held a long and interesting history in country, dating back as far as the 1920's when it was established by the 1928 Great Britain side.

Great Britain Tour of Australasia & Canada (1928) Canada's first touch with Rugby League was when the successful 1928 Great Britain touring squad took a detour on their way home from Australia and New Zealand. [More]
Rugby Union brings League to Nova Scotia (1944 - 1978) In the mid 1940's, the Nova Scotia Rugby Union controversially adopted Rugby League as a way of trying to stop increasing interest in Canadian Football. [More]
The Establishment of the Tri-Counties Rugby League (Late 1980's - Early 1990's) The Tri-Counties Rugby League competition was created in the 1980's, featuring three Canadian teams, and the USA based Adirondacks club. [More]
Canada Rugby League goes to the World Cup (Late 1990's - Early 2000's) The third time Rugby League was established in Canada, the league went international with appearances in the 1999 Student Rugby League World Cup, and 2000 Emerging Nations World Cup. [More] |
