In 1995 The Canada Cougars got invited to their first ever Coca Cola World Sevens in Australia. The Draw for the tournament put the Cougars in the same group as 2 other national teams, Japan, and Papua New Guinea. The Canadians put up good performances in defeat against PNG 6-26, and Japan 8-14, but because the Japan side played an inelidgable player, the Canadians were awarded the victory and a second place finish in their group.
The second place finish allowed the Canadians to qualify for the World Plate Quarter-finals, and a tough match against Russia. The Canadians went out of the competition with a 4-18 Loss to the Russia team.
