The Draw for the tournament put the Cougars in the same group as 2 other national teams, Japan, and Papua New Guinea. The Canadians put up good performances in defeat against PNG 6-26, and Japan 8-14, but because the Japan side played an inelidgable player, the Canadians were awarded the victory and a second place finish in their group.
